"Because being cruel and hard is how I have power over the other sorcerers," snapped Nicholai. "There was a nice sorcerer before, and he died because of the other sorcerers. You have to show the others that you are more powerful than they are, so they'll respect you."

"I see," Sienna nodded, then looked at the ocean. She sat down on her knees, her dress puffing up. "I wish I could live in a place so beautiful as it is here." She whispered, frowning.

Nicholai sighed. "Don't get too close to the lagoon. There might be some mermaids." He shoved his hands into his pockets and turned away, snorting. "Look, I gotta go, Princess."
